Overview Buildings & General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an exciting and unique opportunity with room for growth as a BGS Maintenance Specialist within the Operations & Management Division.
This position will be responsible for the maintenance of our of our lock and key system, maintenance of seasonal grounds, use of power equipment, snow removal, and salting during the winter months. This position will also work as part of a larger team that performs these duties at other state facilities within the Northwest district. Travel between these facilities may be required and will utilize a state owned and/or a privately owned vehicle.
This is a full-time position, and the hours are Monday through Friday, 6am to 2:30pm. Position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of multiple background checks.

Environmental Factors Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional and mental health facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. Position requires possession of a valid driver's license. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
Minimum Qualifications State licensure at or above the journeyman level in any trade area.
OR
Four (4) or more years of experience in building maintenance or construction, structural maintenance, or landscaping/grounds INCLUDING one (1) or more year in a specialized trade (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pesticide).
Preferred Qualifications Experience in carpentry, welding, locksmithing, public water systems operations, horticultural, and/or pesticide application.
Special Requirements Some positions in this class may require a valid driver's license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites.
