A successful Fiber Splicer shall be responsible for proper preparation and splicing of fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system. At a minimum, the position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunications network structure; familiarity with fiber optic cable, splice enclosures and the functionality of each; ability to use OTDR and fusion splicing equipment; ability to read fiber matrices; ability to interpret and analyze data; and, ability to identify and troubleshoot problems.nnPlease note: This position requires 20-25% travel.nnIn order to perform this job, you must demonstrate, either by training or experience:nnthe ability to work safely, with or without supervisionnnexcellent manual dexteritynnthe ability to read understand, interpret, input, and analyze data with a high degree of accuracy and completenessnnthe ability to fully understand and operate technical equipment, including computers, OTDR and fusion splicing equipmentnnthe ability to work comfortably in cramped and/or enclosed spaces for extended periodsnnthe ability to lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other plant and equipmentnnthe ability to work aloft, either from a ladder, aerial lift device, or by gaffingnnthe ability to work standing or seated at a work table, at shoulder height and overhead, for extended periodsnnResponsibilities:nnCompletion of low level and high level labor intensive tasks as well as operation of assigned construction equipmentnnCompletion of daily production reports to document work performednnUse of hand tools, ladders, and equipment to assist in the completion of an assigned projectnnClean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and work areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulationsnnQualifications:nn2 years of related work experience.nnProficient in the use of hand tools and equipment. (Wrenches, Drills, Ladders, Lanyards, Fork Lifts, Saws, etc.)nnProficient in the use of telecom construction equipment.
