Summary of Duties
Plan, develop, and direct the overall operation of the activity department in accordance with regulatory guidelines and established policies and procedures and assure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet the level of interests and abilities of each resident.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity programs of the Community
  2. Interview residents or family members to obtain activity information
  3. Develop assessments of the activity needs of each resident
  4. Develop and maintain an activity schedule
  5. Arrange transportation for field trips when necessary
  6. Assist in making appointments for the resident as requested
  7. Schedule activities for residents
  8. Provide adaptive materials as needed to meet leisure needs
  9. Assist residents by visiting with them, writing letters, running errands, making appointments, etc. as necessary
  10. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Executive Director/Administrator of Hospitality Services concerning the operation of the activity department
  11. Participate in Community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the residents and families
  12. Assist in preparing and planning the activity department's budget for food, equipment, supplies, and labor and submits to the Executive Director/Administrator of Hospitality Services for review, recommendations, and approval
  13. Assist in the development, administration, and coordination of departmental policies and procedures
  14. Develop and grow the volunteer program for the facility
  15. Encourage residents to participate in activities
  16. Assist the Director of Marketing/Director of Admissions by answering general questions for potential residents and their families about the Community and its services
  17. Collect and forward contact information for prospective residents and their families to the Director of Marketing/Director of Admissions
  18. Provide tours of the Community with prospective residents and their families as required
  19. Perform other duties, special projects, and additional responsibilities as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Executive Director/Administrator of Hospitality Services
Education and Experience
B.S. Degree preferred. In lieu of education, a minimum of five (5) years experience in planning and administering recreational and activity programs for older adults is required. Experience in recreational and activities programs for older adults within the past 2 years required.
Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions
  1. Must be able to walk, sit, and stand intermittently throughout the workday
  2. Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the work day
  3. Must be able to work with hands and fingers throughout the workday
  4. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
  5. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
