Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your position is to assist in providing transportation services in an efficient manner, in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be always maintained.
Delegation of Authority
As Transportation Driver you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Functions
Safely Transporting and Transferring Patients
Coordinate with Facility Medical nursing personnel regarding transporting residents to scheduled medical appointments.
Report any known or potential mechanical problems or repairs with the facility's vehicle to the maintenance director immediately.
Use protective clothing or devices when handling infectious waste or/or blood/body fluids.
Ensure that the emergency equipment (i.e., triangles, fire extinguisher, and first-aid kit) is available and in good working condition.
Recommend your supervisor the equipment and supply needs for the facility's vehicle.
Use supplies in an efficient manner to avoid waste.
Assist in the moving and arranging of equipment and supplies to assure that the Facilities vehicle are ready for scheduled appointments and activities.
Supporting Nursing and Maintenance Departments as needed.
Participate in development, implementation, and evaluation of Quarterly Assurance (QA) activities for the Facility, as requested.
Assist in the development of the Quality Assurance program to assure that residents clinical supply needs and Facility par levels, staff training, cost control and reimbursement mechanisms are effective and efficient.
Ensure that vendors provide appropriate material safety data sheets (MSDSs) in accordance with current OSHA regulations and the facility's policies and procedures. Report problem areas to the purchasing agent.
Personnel Functions
Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs.
Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved.
Attend and participate in annual facility in-service training programs as scheduled (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control, etc.).
Must adhere to all HIPAA requirements.
Safety and Sanitation
Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when handling supplies and equipment (e.g., use of back brace, forklifts, etc.).
Clean and check equipment, as directed or as necessary.
Report all incidents and accidents, no matter how minor, to your supervisor immediately.
Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.
>Report all unsafe and hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to your supervisor immediately.
Ensure that work assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of work day, etc.
Keep your work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., grease or oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules or regulations are followed at all times.
Follow established policies and procedures concerning infection control when delivering supplies and equipment.
Ensure defective equipment is identified for maintenance repair as required in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Ensure that department personnel follow established procedures governing the use of labels and MSDSs.
Report missing or illegible labels and MSDSs to the safety officer or other designated person.
Working Conditions
Works in assigned areas of the Facility.
Is involved with physicians, residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies or personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
Communicates with nursing personnel, and other department directors.
May be required to work in cramped spaces.
Education
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Must possess a Driver's License in the state of MD with a good driving record.
Must be CPR Certified (Training provided)
>Must be dependable, timely, friendly, have good phone skills and have excellent customer service.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
Must successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check.
Experience
Knowledge of motor vehicles and navigation.
Experience working with Skilled Nursing Residents. (Some on the job training provided)
Specific Requirements
Must be understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action in a timely fashion.
Must be knowledgeable of supply practices, procedures, and guidelines.
Must possess the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Must have a valid CPR card.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
(With or Without a Reasonable Accommodation)
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the Facility, which may include a medical and physical examination.
Based on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Guidelines for Nursing Homes Ergonomics for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders and the American Conference Governmental Industrial Hygienists' Threshold Limit Values for Lifting the Facility has identified that this job may require the lifting of residents, equipment, or other objects. Accordingly, this job may require a minimum of 5 pounds and a maximum of 45 pounds lifting, periodically and or as needed.
