Job Summary The Phlebotomist is responsible for preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards, ensuring the efficient and accurate collection of blood samples.
The Phlebotomist will create a calm and confident environment for patients while delivering quality care.
Key Responsibilities - Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and manage decontamination and maintenance records.
- Greet patients courteously, creating a welcoming environment.
- Collect and store specimens according to protocols, explaining procedures in a clear and respectful manner.
- Use straight and butterfly needles, demonstrating skill and professionalism.
- Confirm all test requisitions or labels for accuracy against orders.
- Prepare specimens for transport, ensuring samples are stored at the appropriate temperature.
- Maintain proficiency in proper collection and processing methods, adhering to OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Answer patient inquiries and provide lab results, as appropriate.
- Attend annual department training sessions and complete additional assigned duties as needed.
Required Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications - Strong patient interaction skills in both in-person and phone interactions.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
