POSITION OVERVIEW The duties and responsibilities of a laborer are all geared toward maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient mine site while also supporting the overall project. The list of duties and responsibilities for a laborer on any given day may include the following:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Cleaning and preparing construction sites including but not limited to trash pickup
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment
- Building and taking down scaffolding and temporary structures
- Digging trenches, compacting earth, and backfilling holes
- Weed control and landscaping including pest extermination
- Delivery of completed projects to area users
- Traffic control
- Operating light mobile equipment and tending machinery and heavy equipment
- Following instructions from supervisors and implementing construction plans
- Assisting skilled tradespeople in their duties
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Ability to read and understand direction clearly
- Ability to meet the physical demands in a challenging work environment
- Strong interpersonal skills in developing consensus building
- Applicant must have good communications skills (oral and written)
- Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities
- Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Must have a valid driver's license
- High School Diploma or GED
- Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug free
- MSHA certification preferred and will be required to obtain during 1st or 1st 3 days of employment
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying and moving items of up to 50 lbs and more
- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions; dusty, hot weather
- Ability to perform essential job functions in an environment with varied noise levels
