Job Description

WHAT’S THE ROLE?

As part of our continued growth, we have a vacancy for a Senior Game Designer to join our team. Working closely with the wider Design Team, you will play a key collaborative role in designing various aspects of our games to deliver the best possible experience.

As Senior Games Designer, you will support the Lead Designer by writing, collaborating, and reviewing design documentation, systems and unit implementation, and balance & experience testing and iteration.

Your knowledge of and passion for Turn-Based Tactical RPGs will be pivotal to achieving your objectives in this role.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a studio with a track record of delivering successful Tactical RPGs, and to work with our experienced and passionate team as we work towards becoming a world leader in the genre.

This role is on-site in our Winnipeg Studio. We can offer a relocation package for the right candidate.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Responsible for key areas of the game’s design, managing scope, quality, and focusing on delivering features quickly and efficiently.
  • Communicate your ideas and solutions to your Lead, Creative Director, and other departments clearly and accurately, accepting feedback and adapting the design to the broader needs of the project.
  • Deliver, define, and estimate features and tools.
  • Help triage and focus features, bugs, and scope to accommodate changes in staff deadlines or other issues that arise.
  • Manage and communicate risks.
  • Support an environment where team members can grow and evolve, providing direct mentoring and active support when needed.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Demonstrable experience in the Games Industry as a Game Designer.
  • Full-cycle development & production experience as a Senior Game Designer on at least one AA+/AAA title (Turn-Based Tactical RPG title or similar strongly favored).
  • Understanding of the differing needs and demands of Game Design across all phases of Production.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to give and receive feedback in a constructive, timely, and professional manner.
  • Able to identify the best solution and support others in problem-solving constructive solutions to achieve design & iteration goals.
  • Able to make clear and constructive decisions in a timely manner whilst under pressure and remaining positive.
  • Able to build and sell a shared cross-departmental vision for the areas you are responsible for and act as an ambassador for the game as a whole.
  • Able to quickly pick up, analyze, and distill game mechanics and systems to ensure that we are focused on the things that provide the most worth.
  • Critical and analytical thinker able to step out of their role and think from a player’s perspective, delivering accessible and engaging ways to interface with complex systems.
  • Experience with onboarding players via tutorials and in-game guidance.
  • Demonstrable experience of owning an entire feature design, from reviewing feedback and iterating to achieve a specific goal defined by the Lead and/or Creative Director.

BONUS IF YOU HAVE

  • Game UI/UX Design experience.
  • Extensive working knowledge of current & historical Turn-Based Tactical RPGs.
  • Significant experience working with Unity.
  • Previous management, team leadership, or mentoring experience.
