Job Description: Locum Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our healthcare team on a locum tenens basis. The locum cardiothoracic surgeon will primarily focus on providing exceptional surgical care in the operating room, performing a variety of cardiothoracic procedures to treat patients with cardiovascular and thoracic diseases. Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide range of cardiothoracic surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair/replacement, aortic surgery, lung resection, and other procedures as needed.
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative evaluations of patients, assess surgical risks, and develop tailored surgical plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Lead surgical teams in the operating room, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, efficient workflow, and optimal surgical outcomes.
- Provide perioperative care to patients, including postoperative monitoring, pain management, and wound care, and address any complications promptly and effectively.
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure interdisciplinary cooperation.
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records, documenting all aspects of patient care, surgical procedures, and postoperative progress in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, surgical outcomes, and overall quality of care, providing input and feedback to optimize clinical processes and protocols.
- Mentor and supervise residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals participating in cardiothoracic surgery rotations, sharing knowledge and expertise to facilitate learning and professional development.
- Stay updated on advances in cardiothoracic surgery techniques, technologies, and best practices through ongoing education, training, and participation in professional organizations and conferences.
- Respond promptly to emergent situations requiring cardiothoracic surgical intervention, demonstrating calmness under pressure and decisive action to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
- Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, medical ethics, and patient confidentiality in all interactions, maintaining a commitment to excellence in clinical care.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) or equivalent certification board.
- Valid and unrestricted state medical license to practice cardiothoracic surgery.
- Extensive clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery, including proficiency in a wide range of procedures and surgical techniques.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
