Job Description

Assists in the provision of therapeutic care for adult psychiatric patients.

Job Responsibility

  • * Collaborates as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • * Observes and reports patient behavior to members of the team
  • * Obtains admission information from the patient and/or significant other as part of the Multi-disciplinary Assessment.
  • * Facilitates relaxation group.
  • * Provides support and encouragement to patients in individual sessions.
  • * Assists Social Worker with appropriate tasks associated with discharge planning.
  • * Participates in therapeutic community meetings.
  • * Assists professional group leader in facilitating group process; Recreational Therapist with group tasks; and organized leisure activities.
  • * Maintains a safe and orderly environment on the unit.
  • * Provides structured direction and supervision to patients as needed.
  • * Assists with physical care of patients when appropriate.
  • * Obtains and record vital signs, including temperatures, pulse, B/P, and respirations.
  • * Assists patient with making occupied/unoccupied bed if needed, and appropriate disposal of soiled linen.
  • * Assists patient's discharge and transfers utilizing the bed tracking system; and patient movement to and from wheelchair/stretcher..
  • * Makes unit rounds and patient checks every 30 minutes or as deemed necessary.
  • * Assists in emergencies as needed and as directed by the RN.
  • * Participates actively in hospital & unit TQM/CQI/PI processes.
  • * Understands and follows direction in application of restraints.
  • * Fulfills other appropriate unit assignments which may be deemed necessary.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field, required.
  • Experience in a Psychiatric setting, preferred.
