Position Summary: Our Trust & Fiduciary Services Advisors ("Fiduciary Advisors”) play a crucial role in managing and administering trusts and estates for clients, providing them with expert guidance on fiduciary matters. They partner closely with all groups within client's Wealth & Asset Management offering, and act as a trusted advisor, helping clients protect and transfer their wealth in accordance with their wishes while adhering to legal and regulatory standards. Fiduciary Advisors build strong, long-lasting relationships with clients, becoming deeply familiar with their family dynamics, financial goals, and estate planning needs. Fiduciary Advisors are part of each client's inner circle, enhancing their financial well-being, and distinguishing themselves in a competitive industry.
On a day-to-day basis, Fiduciary Advisors, together with a team of investing, complex planning and relationship experts, offer specialized advice and guidance to our clients on matters related to trust administration and fiduciary duties, including:
- Administration of trust accounts and related responsibilities in accordance with terms as specified in trust instruments.
- Investing, managing and distributing trust property, and giving due regard to the beneficiaries' respective interests.
- The formation of new trust accounts, providing advice concerning types of trusts and arrangements that may be best suited for clients' unique situation.
- Collaborating with clients' legal and tax advisors to ensure the proper planning and execution of fiduciary objectives is accomplished in an efficient manner.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
The ideal Fiduciary Advisor is detail-oriented, highly organized, and skilled at navigating complex fiduciary responsibilities. They should have a deep understanding of trust and estate law, and experience working with affluent and high-net-worth clients. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will need to explain complicated legal and financial concepts in a clear and approachable way. Strong problem-solving abilities and a passion for helping clients achieve their legacy goals are key to success in this role.
The most successful Fiduciary Advisors are experts in the world of trust, estates and fiduciary administration, and can seamlessly accomplish the following objectives:
- Manage, develop and oversee a diverse portfolio of trust accounts, estates and fiduciary relationships, ensuring our fiduciary obligations are paramount.
- Originating and reviewing distribution requests for content and appropriate supporting documentation, review of Power-to-Adjust Requests, etc., including coaching of internal client team members on appropriate submission content.
- Review and offer guidance on sophisticated inter-vivos and testamentary trust instruments for affluent and high-net-worth clients and prepare accurate abstract / synopsis of relevant provisions.
- Review and offer guidance on wills and estate plans, working to ensure the proper administration and compliance with the law.
- Issue spot newly accepted trusts to provide proper account setup guidance to internal colleagues.
- Prepare initial trust reviews for newly opened trust accounts to assist internal colleagues and ensure accurate administration from inception.
- Oversee the trust termination process when trusts terminate, including drafting of appropriate letters, receipts, and file correspondence.
- Serve as a resource for internal colleagues in all aspects of the administration of trust accounts where the client serves as trustee, including specialized accounts and assets.
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of trust and fiduciary law and investment management as it relates to trust and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of basic income tax, estate tax, gift tax and GST tax.
- Working knowledge and previous success interpreting trust and fiduciary instruments, and directing actions in accordance with those instruments
- At least 5+ years of experience in personal trust administration
- Comfortable interacting with individuals of significant wealth
- Trustworthiness and personal integrity that is beyond reproach
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of people - a team player.
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and organize tasks effectively
- Ability to work independently and self- start projects.
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- College degree required; Law degree and/or CTFA designation preferred
