Microbiology Technician
Shift : Sunday through Thursday, 7:30am – 4:00pm
Location : Onsite in Roanoke, VA
Duration: 6 month contract to start, temp to hire
Position Overview
The Microbiology Technician will be responsible for performing microbiological testing for the Quality Department. This position reports to the Microbiology Supervisor and offers opportunities for career development and challenges.
Responsibilities
Performs Microbiological Testing:
- Aerobic plate counts on products, bulks, and raw materials.
- Enrichment procedures.
- Preservative efficacy testing (PET).
Environmental Testing:
- Monthly air plates.
- Weekly water testing.
- Auditing of proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment.
Media Preparation:
- Prepare all necessary media for testing.
Documentation:
- Proper documentation of all test samples.
- Monitoring and recording of equipment temperatures.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Proper operation and maintenance of the autoclave.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records.
- Manage laboratory supplies.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Conduct any other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor/Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in the physical sciences) or Associate’s Degree/5 years relevant work experience.
- Biology and/or microbiology coursework preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize appropriately.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating issues with all departments.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment.
- Strong, consistent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently.
