The Opportunity RVS invites applications for a continuing, full-time (30 hrs/wk) American Sign Language Learning Assistant position starting immediately at Cochrane Christian Academy. This position will require a Level III Signing Certification to meet the needs of the student they are assisting. The Learning Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the diverse needs of learners within the classroom, school, and community settings throughout Rocky View Schools (RVS). Reporting to the Principal, the Learning Assistant collaborates with teachers to adapt and implement programs for students with complex needs, with a focus on promoting their health, learning, and independence. Responsibilities Include Under the direction of a teacher, assists students individually by facilitating communication between the student, their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, school administration, parents and staff within the school environment by providing interpreting services based on the communication as specified in the student's individual education plan Prepare for ASL Academic Support by becoming familiar with course information and technical language Reinforces strategies as directed by the teacher(s) and identified in Personalized Learning Plan (PLP), Individualized Program Plans (IPP), Behaviour Support Plans (BSP), safety plans, and medical plans, in programming for the diverse needs of the students Implements behaviour management strategies for students as needed Contributes to the achievement of students' educational goals and objectives by working with the teacher to create a positive, safe, and optimal learning environment Education/Experience Level III or greater ASL Certification Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate from a related field An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Understanding of language implications on the education of deaf and hard of hearing students and competency in adapting to various signing styles along the communication continuum Experience working or interacting with d/Deaf and hard of hearing persons, especially children Knowledge of the basic principles of educational practices, the function of support services, and the role of interpreters as part of an educational team Minimum one (1) year experience supporting d/Deaf students in an academic environment Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in a timely manner Demonstrated ability to carry out the plans and directions of teaching staff to assist students Ability to build and maintain rapport with students and staff Ability to adapt to dynamic situations, while successfully managing a high level of stress Ability to work effectively in collaborative team settings Excellent multi-tasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills Working knowledge of child development Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications Rocky View Schools Benefits 6% vacation pay Benefits Plan (Extended health, Dental, Wellness and Health Spending Account, Tax Free Savings Account and Registered Retirement Savings Plan)Defined Benefit Pension Plan Professional development and training opportunities Free Parking Pre-employment Requirements The successful candidate must submit a current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of the start of your employment Proof of qualifications/education as required by the position An assessment in ASL proficiency, conducted by Rocky View Schools, will be required for this position Open to: Internal and External applicants Salary Range: $22.19-$26.52 hourly rate (effective Dec.2/24 this position will move to Group C - $23.87 - $29.00 hourly rate).
