ROLE SUMMARY :The Heritage College Nursing Program provides a full-time, three-year RN competency-based diploma program. Given that nursing is a practice-based profession, we believe that clinical experience is a vital and integral component of the curriculum, providing students with hands-on opportunities to practice their nursing skills under direct supervision of their clinical instructor. The clinical instructor supports student learning, liaises with assigned nurses in a clinical unit and collaborates with the Faculty Team Leader. The clinical instructor role is an essential and powerful component of nursing education.
DUTIES :The College is seeking part-time professors (Clinical Instructors) to teach credited courses (clinical) within the Nursing program in the Winter 2025.
180-D26-HR Perioperative Nursing(Wednesdays from February 19th, 2025 to May 7th, 2025)The theory, lab and clinical components of this course focus on the basic nursing skills and physical examination techniques related to caring for the surgical client pre-operatively and post operatively. The student builds upon the framework of the nursing process to improve assessment skills. The fundamental concepts of health promotion and teaching methods are applied.WORK LOCATIONClinical Placement: The Ottawa Hospital - Civic or General Campus - Wednesdays (day/evening rotation) from February 19th to May 7th, 2025 with availability to the college as of January 16th, 2025, for meetings, hospital orientation, etc. Some availability must be made at the main campus located at 325 boul. Cité-des-Jeunes, Gatineau, QC. (7.5 hours per day (11 shifts) - total 82.5 hours plus availability).
180-D41-HR Medical Surgical Nursing(Thursdays and Fridays from January 23rd, 2025 to May 2nd, 2025)(3 hours of theory and 3 hours of labs per week, 11 clinical shifts at the Ottawa Hospital (Thursdays and Fridays))This course teaches concepts related to the care of the adult in a medical-surgical clinical setting. The nursing concepts taught include common medical and surgical problems and potential complications. There is an emphasis on the roles, relationships and responsibilities of the multi-disciplinary team; ethical dilemmas and the study of situations affecting the quality of adult life. The course emphasizes decision-making and the factors influencing the ability to make choices. In theory and lab, nursing procedures related to the care of the adult are taught with emphasis on nursing process and collaborative problems and the TNP. The interrelationship between medical diagnosis, medications, treatment and diagnostic testing is explored. In the medical surgical clinical setting, nursing procedures related to the care of the adult are taught with emphasis on nursing process and collaborative problems. 180-C61-HR Preceptorship - students supervision(From March 9th, 2025 to May 24th, 2025)Nursing Preceptorship is a clinical experience which integrates the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during all previous courses in the Nursing Program. It is designed to facilitate the transition from the role of student to that of graduate nurse in collaboration of the Health Care Team. Clinical settings include hospital and ambulatory care services settings. The focus of the experience is on social integration into the workplace, application of theory to practice, decision making and mastery of psychomotor skills. An integral aspect of the preceptorship is the ability of the student to assume responsibility for his/her own learning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend clinical instructor and student hospital orientation for all positions.
Attend and assist students with skills lab when clinical groups are in a Lab environment or using the Simulation Lab.
Support student learning:
Select appropriate patient assignment as per clinical pedagogy;
Direct supervision and monitor student performance in clinical setting;
Organize pre-post conferences online;
Review and offer weekly written and verbal feedback of student learning objectives;
Review and discuss student midterm self-assessments;
Assess student progress and complete final student evaluations;
Ensure completion of student clinical assignments and assess competency as per rubric within the given time frame. Liaise with faculty to ensure coherence across class;
Conduct midterm and final evaluation with students.
Collaborate with course faculty: ensure ongoing communication with course team leader.
Attend weekly student progress meetings online.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and several years of teaching experience at the university or college level is preferred.
Fluency in English and French, both oral and written is required.
Knowledge of software as per program requirements is necessary.
Must be a member of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Must hold an OIIQ (Ordre des infirmiers et infirmières du Québec) license for all Quebec placements.
