Overview:
Fairview Health Services is looking for an Endoscopy Technician to work in our busy Endo /GI department at Fairview Ridges Hospital located in Burnsville, Minnesota. This department has 4 procedure rooms where both outpatient and inpatient colonoscopies/EGD procedures occur. They handle approximately, 4,500 procedures per year, including colonoscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, EGD, bronchoscopies, ERCP and EUS procedures.
The Endoscopy Technician (Sterile Instrument processing/ patient support hybrid role) is an integral part of the GI team, who under the guidance and direction of the nursing team accomplishes a variety of delegated nursing assistive tasks such as equipment and supply set-up, assisting with collection of specimens, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and scopes, exam room prep and clean-up including the documentation of cleaning and disinfection processes. They will complete direct patient care duties (similar to nursing assistant) to ensure optimal patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.
Position is;
- 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every 2 weeks.
- Day/Evening shifts Monday - Friday, starting at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 am
- Rotating Weekends

Responsibilities/Job Description:

- Completes tasks as delegate by RN with defined role functions and competencies.
- Assists in data collection to identify the patients needs, problems, concerns or human responses (e.g. vital signs, blood pressure).
- Assist with the implementation of the established plan of care, as delegated,
- Assist the physician and nurse before, during and after the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, handling of devices used during procedures including forceps, snares, tomes, baskets and balloons under the guidance of the procedure physician.
- Reprocesses and maintains equipment according to standards of infection prevention. policies/procedures and manufacturers instructions.
- Provides and maintains a healthy and safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organization and institutional policies,
- Acknowledges the diversity of patient.
- Participates in ongoing continuing education.
- Maintains knowledge of current practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology.
- Complies with legal and practice standards inherent in patient care (e.g. patients bill of rights).
Qualifications:
Required Education/Experience
- Six months experience working in an endoscopy or gastroenterology setting or cleaning endoscopy equipment, OR have successfully completed a Surgical Technologist/technician OR Endoscopy Tech OR Instrument (sterile processing) Tech Program OR specialized training/education in gastroenterology
- Ability to complete the SGNA GI Associates program to become a GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification within one year of employment/hire date.
Required License/Certification/Registration
- AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare providers by start date
Preferred
Education
Graduate of an accredited: Surgical Tech, or Endoscopy Tech or Instrument Tech (sterile processing) Program
Experience
- Specialized training or education in gastroenterology
- Work experience in an endo unit, GI unit and cleaning of equipment
- Work experience in a patient support role (nursing assistant, pca or similar)
License/Certification/Registration
- AAMA or CSSD Certification
- Flexible endoscope reprocessor (CBSPD GI Scope) certification
- Completion of SGNA GI Advance Assistant program
