Job Title: Patient Care Technician
Location: 30PROSPECT, 07601
Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Shifts per Week: 40 hours week
Job Summary:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for supporting registered nurses in patient care. The role includes performing essential tasks to ensure patient comfort, care, and safety, as detailed below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Welcomes patients and verifies identification bracelets.
  • Prepares patients for assessment, physical examinations, and procedures.
  • Draws blood (intravenous or capillary) from patients ranging from newborns to the elderly using aseptic techniques, ensures accurate labeling, and processes specimens promptly.
  • Performs EKGs as directed.
  • Ensures the presence, cleanliness, and proper functioning of necessary equipment.
  • Assists with patient transport to various departments or units.
  • Aids in meal preparation and assists with feeding when necessary.
  • Restocks assigned areas by checking inventory.
  • Prepares room environments for patient admissions.
  • Provides direct hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed making.
  • Takes vital signs upon admission as directed by the RN, documents findings, and notifies the RN of results.
  • Performs glucose finger sticks, collects specimens, and documents results as directed.
  • Records daily patient weights and tracks intake and output.
  • Ensures patient safety by promptly responding to call lights and notifying the RN of any changes in patient condition.
  • Delivers patient care that is sensitive to the patient's age, culture, language, and specific needs, including communication adjustments for those with visual or hearing impairments.
  • Regular interactions with medical center personnel, patients, and visitors.
Preferred Experience: 1 year of PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Certifications & Licensure:
  • Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Certification as a CNA, Medical Assistant, or completion of a PCT program (including phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant training).
