Summary:nnSupports the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Boiler Mechanic will perform hands-on boiler operation tasks on maintenance or construction projects, or any combination thereof, under the supervision of the PM Foreman. Tasking is based on ASC schedule requirements.nnPosition Responsibilities:nnDiagnose, repair, and perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance on boiler systems: hydronic, hot water heaters, steam HVAC systems and associated equipmentnnMaintain boiler systems in accordance with provisions of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Boiler systems may include steam, hydronic, hot water heaters, along with other types of heating systems, pumps, forced air furnaces, air handlersnnMaintain, monitor, troubleshoot and repair station boilers and associated systems, heat exchangers, pumps, controls, air handlers, commercial steam kitchens, and zone valves in all buildings.nnMaintain, monitor, troubleshoot and repair circulating pumps, back-up pumps, heat exchangers, strainers, valves, expansion tanks, air separators, unit heaters, heating coils and system controls to assure adequate operationsnnInspect all glycol and steam lines for damagennPerform preventive maintenance in accordance with the preventive maintenance programnnMonitor, regulate and repair fuel lines and air adjustments for the boilersnnMonitor, repair and maintain boiler control systemsnnCommission and startup new equipmentnnSubmit reports as required by supervisornnTimely response to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hoursnnMaintain accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involvednnAdvise Supervisor of job progress and material/labor requirementsnnAccomplish tasking working from Job Plans, verbal information, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, documents, vendor/manufacturer manuals, and applicable specifications and codes.nnFollow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), suggest revisions as needed, and create SOPs as directednnPerform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind and extreme cold weathernnProactively identify any unsafe conditions or hazards and communicate them effectivelynnWork directly with other departments to plan and complete taskingnnLearn and use computer based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applicationsnnComply with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirementsnnOther duties as requirednnRequired Qualifications:nnMinimum 4 years' experience in boiler operation and complete hydronic and steam HVAC systems maintenance and repairnnDocumented experience in construction, repair, and/or maintenance of commercial, residential, and/or industrial facilities' boiler systemsnnExpected Skills and Competencies:nnAbility to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, diagrams, maintenance manual and manufacturer's troubleshooting guides to accomplish taskingnnExperienced developing written work plans, job hazard analysis, and job safety analysis related to the work activities under a permit to work systemnnProficient in LOTO procedures for various taskingnnProficient in confined space safety protocolsnnProficient in risk assessment and determination of PPE appropriate to specific taskingnnKnowledgeable of limits of PPE and proper maintenance of PPEnnFamiliar with fall protection and respirator usennCompetent analyzing situatio
