ROLE OVERVIEW
As the Director of Procurement, you will lead the development and execution of strategic procurement for the Rook I Project which will ensure the seamless supply of materials, equipment, and services critical to mining operations. You will oversee the entire procurement process, emphasizing collaboration, cost optimization, sustainability, supplier partnerships, and compliance. This role is integral to driving project and operational efficiency and long-term value creation across NexGen and Rook I Project
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)
Leadership
- Ensure established policies, plans, processes, procedures and systems for the procurement of materials are developed, implemented and complied to, with a strong focus on enhancing organizational value and efficiency
- Develop and implement NexGen’s procurement strategies in alignment with the Project Execution Plan
- Represent NexGen in formulating procurement policies and practices with the Nations, suppliers, subcontractors and professional service providers
- Oversee expediting, delivery schedules and project procurement reporting, coordinate with the finance and project controls teams on budget and cost control
- Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the company’s operational and financial goals
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, ensuring business continuity in a dynamic greenfield mining environment
- Champion innovative procurement practices, leveraging data analytics, market intelligence, and emerging technologies
Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Contracts team to develop templates for service and supply agreements and Purchase Order terms and conditions
- Collaborate with Contracts, IT, Project Controls and Finance teams to develop the procurement module within the Enterprise resource Planning (ERP) system, optimizing processes and procedures
- Collaborate with the Director, Contracts to manage the full procurement lifecycle
- Engage proactively with NexGen stakeholders on all procurement related matters
- Collaborate with Director, Contracts to ensure commercial, legal, risk, insurance, environmental, health and safety are mitigated throughout the procurement lifecycle
- Collaborate with Director, Contracts to negotiate commercial terms and conditions align with NexGen’s objectives and values, minimizing project and corporate risk while maintaining competitiveness
- Collaborate with Regional Development and Contracts team to ensure obligations under the Impact Benefit Agreements are reflected in the contracts and procurement processes
- Regularly interface with project staff at all levels regarding procurement
- Work with Contracts team to analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future availability
Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure consistent quality, reliability, and value
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations and lead supplier development initiatives
- Drive sustainability initiatives by integrating ethical sourcing, local supplier engagement, and environmental considerations into procurement processes
Operational Excellence
- Establish and monitor leading and lagging Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure procurement performance, cost savings, and compliance
- Oversee governance with external service providers related to procurement activities on the Rook I Project
- Coordinate and manage warehouse and material management systems
- Ensure adherence to regulations, corporate policies, and project standards
Team Development
- Provide training to NexGen teams on procurement policies, processes and procedures
- Coach team members on procurement best practices
- Build and mentor a high-performing procurement team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Provide leadership and coaching to drive talent development and succession planning
- Promote diversity and inclusion within the team and supplier base
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement, contracts, and supply chain management, or a suitable combination of education and experience.
- Experience in the mining industry or large capital projects is essential.
- Proven team leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate with an integrated project team at all levels to meet deliverable deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience and advanced working knowledge of ERP procurement systems.
- Supply chain certifications such as APICS (Association for Supply Chain Management) or SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional) are considered assets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and general knowledge of database utilization.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and demonstrated safety leadership.
LOCATION
The position will be remotely based with occasional travel to NexGen’s Operations office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
