Company/Job Summary
The Planner, working closely with the Project Office and the Production Manager, will be responsible for developing plans and work instructions necessary to execute the work in an efficient and timely manner.
Job Responsibilities
Pre-Contract Award :
- Develop and maintain a master facility schedule complete with resource requirements (Manpower, Equip & Facility) that includes firm and forecasted work.
- Collaborate with Tendering/Estimating group to assist with developing schedules, preparing manning forecasts, mBOM and when required, help in developing the estimate.
Post Contract Award :
- Develop WBS complete with budgets by trade.
- Collaborate with operations, Project Management, and where applicable sub-contractors to develop level 5 schedule complete with budgets, resources required, constraints and any known risks.
- Incorporate any change orders that may arise and rebase line accordingly.
- Collaborate with operations to ensure resources are aligned with schedule, project, and organizational objectives.
- Assist in the surveying and inspection of marine vessels to create a more detailed work scope and more accurate schedule
- Provide 4 week look ahead for resources required.
- Interface between Production, Project Management & HR to ensure the 1, 2, 3, & 4 weeks look ahead of resources required is understood and being fulfilled.
- Develop work instructions for production to execute the work.
- Develop a master BOM from the estimate.
-Requisitions required materials, subs and rentals.
-Weekly review of Master BOM & outstanding material to ensure schedule can be achieved.
-Identify variations weekly – Budget v Actual
- Provide weekly updates of the schedule and reporting of key metrics along with explanations of variations to the metrics.
- Provide manning forecast through to completion.
- Assess and provide percent complete/work pack on a weekly basis.
Upon project completion :
- Finalize metrics and norms.
- Provide feedback for the project closeout.
Other Duties :
- Develop and manage an overview of output capacity for each location.
- Analyze output capacity and provide recommendations for improvements (i.e. processes, tools, equipment & human resources requirements);
- Establish and manage a baseline of production norms for each department at each facility.

-MH/meter of pipe at various sizes and complexities
-MHs per standard valve overhaul based on size and type
-MHs/meter of cable pulled

-MHs/sq ft blasted
-MHs/sq ft painted
-MH/linear ft welded
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive risk register c/w mitigation strategy, that takes into consideration all the factors that may impact the ability to execute on a project.
- Develop and manage a third-party subcontractor list which highlights scope items to be performed by third parties.
- Produce schedule reports in support of customer invoicing.
Required Skills :
- Min 3+ years experience in Planning/Scheduling and operations in a ship repair and ship construction environment.
- Min 3+ yrs working in a tendering department of a similar size shipyard.
- Marine experience in roles that require a broad understanding of ship repair (i.e. estimating, project management, surveying, etc.) will be considered as well.
- Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings.
- Understanding of the tendering/estimating process for ship repair & construction, in order to assist in the development of schedules for bid submissions
- Experience with 3D scanning an asset
- Strong structural, piping, and mechanical background
- Knowledge of welding processes/techniques and metal fabrication
- Excellent MS Project & Primavera scheduling knowledge
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- PMBOK certified is considered an asset.
- Previous Six Sigma training/experience considered an asset.
- Previous Project Management, or other managerial experience considered an asset.
