Position Overview
Calian is currently seeking skilled professionals to join our team as VATS Simulator Operators to support the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) Air Traffic Control (ATC) units. As part of this role, you will be responsible for operating Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Air Traffic Simulators (VATS) at Military Aerodrome Control Units (MACUs) across various active Air Wings. This position is crucial for ensuring that Air Traffic Controller trainees reach their Operationally Functional Point (OFP), contributing to the readiness and operational effectiveness of the RCAF.
Responsibilities
- Operate VATS and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) simulators to support the training of Air Traffic Controllers (AEC and AC Op personnel)
- Execute realistic training scenarios under various conditions, including non-VFR weather and low traffic situations
- Collaborate with 1 CAD units to optimize the use of simulator training resources
- Ensure simulator operations adhere to occupational health, safety, and operational standards
Qualifications
- Experience with VFR and IFR simulators in a military or civil aviation environment
- Knowledge of Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations, particularly within the RCAF or similar settings
- Technical skills in operating and troubleshooting complex simulation systems
- Understanding of the Force Generation (FG) process in military training
- Ability to work autonomously while supporting ATC units with on-demand simulation needs
- Previous experience working with radio communication
