Role: Claims Assessor
Length: 3 Month Contract
Location: Downtown Toronto (5 Days on-site)
Rate: $23/hour
We require Claims Assessors to be responsible for the processing, review, and communications associated with class action settlement claims. Will also be required to perform administrative duties as required including data entry, clerical duties, and responding to requests and enquiries through email and over the phone.

Job Description
- Document administrative duties including filing and storage
- Entering, reviewing, and verifying data from paper or electronic forms into a standard database
- Assisting with coordination and logistics of meetings, travel, and expense tracking
- Attending training pertaining to the class action including e-courses related to trauma-informed approaches to communication
- Determining whether the claim forms are complete and whether the information required to process the claim is available and current
- Reviewing submitted claim forms to determine whether the applicant meets claims requirements
- Identifying irregularities on claim forms and submitted documentation, and flagging issues as required
- Contacting class members to obtain required information, documentation, or confirmations when necessary
- Communicating with claimants and their representatives through phone, email, fax, and mail
- Preparing notifications to claimants pertaining to claim status, review decisions, and instructions
- Answering incoming phone calls to assist and direct claimants and representatives in a professional manner
- Supporting claimants in a professional manner when they require assistance on topics including claim form access, assessment questions, and accessing mental health and cultural resources
Qualifications Experience
- Post-secondary education in business management, accounting, risk management, legal studies, or related field preferred
- 3+ year of industry experience, with previous experience in claims administration, underwriting, or clerical review preferred
- Ability to read and understand necessary documentation including government issued identification, declarations, power of attorney documents, estate documents etc. as needed
- Ability to understand the terms and eligibility requirements of the claim, and apply them to answer claimant questions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience using a VOIP / Internet phone service is desirable
- Experience using claims administration software or databases considered an asset
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset. The ability to speak an Indigenous language (i.e., Cree languages, Inuktitut, Ojibway etc.) considered an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture is an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals who are potentially experiencing trauma
