Job Overview
The Human Resources Business Partner is a strategic partner who will collaborate with the management and union representatives to strengthen business partnerships, foster organizational effectiveness and meet company objectives. The HRBP provides guidance and support on various HR matters, such as employee relations, performance management, talent development, compensation and benefits, and compliance. The HRBP also participates in the development and implementation of HR policies and programs that foster a positive and productive work environment.
Your day-to-day:
- Act as a trusted advisor and coach to the management and the union representatives on HR issues and initiatives.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders and promote a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.
- Facilitate the resolution of salaried employee relations issues, disciplinary actions and terminations in accordance with legislation.
- Accountable for monitoring and analyzing HR metrics regularly, working with senior leadership to recognize trends and ensuring Divisionals have information to justify any variance in KPIs.
- Lead the HR segment of the onboarding program for newly hired employees. Conduct new hire check-ins at 2 months, 4 months and 12 months.
- Coordinate with the Labour Relations team in the resolution of employee relations issues and grievances in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
- Support the performance management process and provide feedback and coaching to the employees and the managers.
- Work with the Talent Acquisition team to fill open positions.
- Work with the Talent Development team to identify and implement talent development opportunities and succession planning strategies for the employees.
- Ensure adherence to the Headcount Business Plan while managing job openings and addressing management requests.
- Ensure compliance with the HR policies and procedures, the collective agreement, and legislation.
- Participate in the administration of the collective agreement and maintain positive labour relations.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the HR strategy and initiatives that support the business goals and objectives.
- Maintain and update employee records and databases, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Participate in HR projects and initiatives, such as diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, and wellness.
Job Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment legislation, and the collective bargaining process.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Proficient in MS Office and HR systems. Experience with Workday is an asset.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
- CHRL or requisite experience is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an HRBP or a similar role in an industrial unionized environment.

- The plant operates 24 hours a day , 365 days a year
- Fast-paced office and industrial manufacturing environment for a high impact team
- The job at times may require you to enter various areas of the facilities.
- Safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered. This includes wearing Stelco provided PPE, such as a hard hat, protective eye and earwear, gloves, respirator (if applicable) and safety boots.
- The position may require flexibility in working hours for projects, deadlines, as required.
