JOB SUMMARY

n

Under the direction Director of Surgical Services, the CATH Lab Circulator (RN) ensures the delivery of quality patient care within the assigned service area; serves as a leader, clinical resource and assists with problem solving and communication. The CATH Lab Circulator circulates and/or scrubs to relieve for lunches as needed as determined by caseload and staffing demands.

QUALIFICATIONS:

    n
  • Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • n
  • Licensed to practice professional registered nursing in Texas
  • n
  • BLS Certification
  • n
  • ACLS Certification
  • n
  • 2 – 5 years’ experience in Cardiac Cath Lab. Extensive experience in heart-related procedures. An advanced training and knowledge on the cardiovascular system and the various processes of the heart is necessary.
  • n
  • Able to handle and understand the Cath lab equipment and functions
  • n
  • Ability to provide cardio pulmonary resuscitation and/or defibrillation in life-threatening situations.
  • n
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE

Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

n
    n
  • Responsible for the staff development of all Cath Lab personnel. Creates and implements necessary training programs for all staff in order to increase the operations of the department. Maintains records of training performed by all staff and ensures compliance with all hospital educational requirements.
  • n
  • Manages personnel to include interviewing, work allocation, problem resolution, and performance evaluation, making recommendations for personnel actions, and motivating employees to achieve peak performance. Is responsible for their employee’s output and conduct. Provides guidance, support and direction to all departmental personnel.
  • n
  • Responsible for meeting monthly and annual budgets. Assists hospital leadership in evaluating and projecting payroll, equipment, and supply costs for cardiac services.
  • n
  • Responsible to interact with patients, physicians, physician’s offices, and other system or facility departments over the phone or in person in an effective and professional manner. Responsible for organizing, directing, teaching and evaluating total care within area of responsibility to include ensuring adequate staffing.

  • Assists hospital leadership with research and evaluation of all equipment purchases to ensure alignment with departmental budget and continuous delivery and improvement of services.
  • n
  • Assists the physician in performing various cardiac catheterizations, and angioplasties. In addition, the cath lab nurse will assist the physician in performing pacemaker implantations and cardioverter- defibrillators.

  • Ensures cleanliness of all areas supervised to include equipment and facilities: Ensures equipment is in working order and meets safety guidelines/standards.

  • Works independently in the Cardiac Cath Lab, operate all special procedure equipment and can select and modify technical factors as needed.

  • Serves as a resource for specialized or complicated procedures; consistently applies knowledge from complex situations to improve practice, and shares improvements with team members
  • n
  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures; regularly practices aseptic techniques; strictly obeys isolation and infection control procedures.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.
