Job Description

The Correctional RN works in collaboration with otherhealthcare professionals, correctional officers, and administrators to ensurethe well-being of the incarcerated population. The Correctional RN utilizes their knowledge to address the specificchallenges and limitations of the correctional environment while providing careto their patient population. This careincludes both routine and emergency health care in a correctional facilitysetting.nnEssential Duties and Responsibilities:nnUtilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient carennPerforms focused interview to identify specific patient'sneedsnnAssesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient’s conditionnnConducts health histories on newly-admitted inmatesnnWhen necessary, makes referrals of inmates to the staffphysician, nurse practitioner, dentist, or mental health professionalnnDetermines the need for emergency hospital care and ensuresthat all medication is administered in accordance with standard operatingprocedures and as ordered by the authorizing authoritynnCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealthcare members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesnnDocuments the patient’s plan of care using identifiednursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursinginterventionsnnIdentifies and prioritizes actions based on patient carerequirementsnnMonitors consistency between patient plan of care andactions of medical staffnnPerforms interventions according to identified priorities,plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardnnInitiates and evaluates patient educationnnRevises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes inmedical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventionsnnDocuments patient’s response to nursing and otherinterventionsnnSupervises, trains and directs other healthcareprofessionals on site such as LPNs, CNAs, etc.nnPerforms other duties as assigned/necessarynnMinimum Requirements:nnCurrent Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practicesnnMinimum of one year of correctional health care experiencepreferrednnComplies with all relevant professional standards ofpracticennParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicablennCurrent CPR if applicablennTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicablennCurrent Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)nnMust meet all federal, state and local requirementsnnSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob sitennUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirementsnnAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is requirednnComputer proficiency requirednnMust be at least 18 years of agennBenefitsnnAt Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits:nnCompetitive pay & weekly paychecksnnHealth, dental, vision, and life insurancenn401(k) savings plannnAwards and recognition programsnn*Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.nnAbout AmergisnnAmergis, formerly known as Maxim Healthcare Staffing, has served our clients and communities by connecting people to the work that matters since 1988.
