Job Summary:
The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Respiratory Therapist II. The successful candidate will:
  • Provide respiratory care for Adult, Pediatric, & Neonatal patients under the direction of a physician.
  • Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care.
  • Conduct ventilator management.
  • Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases.
  • Record the respiratory status of all patients.
  • Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests.
  • Respond to all cardiac arrests and rapid response calls (may include L&D for high risk deliveries).
  • Provide sputum induction.
  • Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy.
  • Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof.
  • Make entries in patient's electronic medical record.
  • Assist with education of other disciplines such as nursing and house staff.
  • Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use.
  • Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning.
  • Will provide coverage as needed to all age groups and patient care areas (dependent on experience and certifications).
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
  • New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
  • BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment).
  • NRP required to work NICU.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
