SA1042 - RN Cardiac Cath Lab - Rockford, IL - 13 Weeks Contract Sigma Healthcare teamis looking for an experienced Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse to work onsite at our client's hospital in Rockford.
Shift: 10:00 hr - Days.
Responsibilities: - Assist physicians with patient assessments.
- Prepare patients for catheterization, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation and cardiac procedures.
- Preparation of patients can include taking the patient's vital signs, oxygen levels and heart rhythm before the physician examines the patient.
- Ensure the patient's chart and records are updated.
- Start intravenous lines while preparing patients for a catheterization or cardiac procedure.
- Ease the patient's fear and answer questions regarding the cardiac procedure.
- Obtain patient consent for cardiac procedures.
- Assist physicians during catheterization procedures, angioplasties, pacemaker implantation and other cardiac procedures.
- Monitor the patient's vital signs during the procedure.
- Patients may be awake during the procedure, which requires the cardiac cath lab nurse to help keep them calm and reassured.
- Administer medication according to the physician's instructions before, during and after cardiac procedures.
- In addition to scheduled procedures in the cardiac cath lab, registered nurses must assist during emergencies and perform lifesaving procedures.
- Monitor patients during their recovery in the cardiac cath lab.
- Monitor the patient's vital signs, administering medications and updating the patient's chart.
- Watch for signs of infection or side effects from the procedure.
- Administer treatment if patients experience excessive bleeding, fever or other side effects from the cardiac procedure.
- Provide instructions and education to patients and their families before discharge from the cardiac cath lab.
- Education and instruction can include information on medications, nutrition and care of a surgical site.
Requirements: - BSN from an accredited nursing school
- 2 years of current Cardiac Catheterization experience in a hospital setting.
- Hands on EP experience required
- Current RN licensure (where applicable)
- Current BLS, EKG, Stroke and ACLS certifications
