EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:
n
n- Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
n- No experience required

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required:
n
n- Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
n- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
n- Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)

Current RN’s who have not yet completed their nurse practitioner program or recent graduates who have not yet obtained their ANCC/AANP certification or APRN nurse practitioner license are eligible to apply for this position. However, official employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program, ANCC/AANP certification and APRN nurse practitioner licensure.

JOB DUTIES:
n
n- Works independently to full scope of practice in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act with acknowledgement of off-site collaborating physician availability for consultation and collaboration
n- Performs individualized history and physical examinations for diverse populations inclusive of social determinants of health
n- Orders and interprets diagnostic testing in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient
n- Diagnoses acute, episodic, and chronic diseases
n- Develops a comprehensive plan of care that encompasses evidence-based practice guidelines, practice protocols, Medicare, Medicaid, and other state and federal regulations
n- Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments
n- Provides appropriate education for current health diagnoses as we as anticipatory guidance for health promotion and disease prevention applicable to the individual's health and socioeconomic status
n- Monitors plan of care for cost-effectiveness and the achievement of expected improvements, while openly seeking feedback from patients, significant others, colleagues, allied health, appropriate referrals, and collaborating physician to enhance quality outcomes
n- Facilitates patient transition within and between health care services to ensure accurate communication among the health care team
n- Documents in a timely manner to ensure all services are accurately accounted for and available for review by the interdisciplinary team
n- Adheres to internal controls established for department, all requirements for continued licensure, periodic evaluations, and actively seeks input for identifying actions to improve performance and practice outcomes
n- Supports population and individual health through the prevention, health promotion, and chronic disease management
n- Performs related duties as required, including, but not limited to, data collection, staff meetings, preceptor student training, and university-wide compliance/safety training.
