Job Description

The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12. The Special Education Teacher has a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs including special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultation with general education staff.nnEssential Duties and Responsibilities:nnPrepares student education plans in consultation with parents and department team membersnnSupports learning for students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.nnDesigns instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculumnnAssists parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social developmentnnPrepares materials and classrooms for class activitiesnnServes as the coordinator of individualize education program (IEP) implementation with general education staffnnMonitors student progress, participates in review and revision of student’s IEP, as appropriatennMaintains accurate student recordsnnMentors and supports teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilitiesnnSupports students in preparation for grade transitions and preparing for life skillsnnAssess students’ skills and educational needs and tracks student’s performancennDiscusses students’ progress with their other teachersnnCommunicates to maintain positive relationships with students and their parentsnnFollows School District policies and proceduresnnMinimum Requirements:nnBachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferrednnValid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulationsnnMinimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferrednnState Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferrednnState Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferrednnState Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferrednnEndorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferrednnComplies with all relevant professional standards of practicennParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicablennCurrent CPR if applicablennTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicablennCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)nnMust meet all federal, state and local requirementsnnSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job sitennUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsnnAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language requirednnComputer proficiency requirednnMust be at least 18 years of agennBenefitsnnAt Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits:nnCompetitive pay & weekly paychecksnnHealth, dental, vision, and life insurancenn401(k) savings plannnAwards and recognition programsnn*Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.nnAbout AmergisnnAmergis, formerly known as Maxim Healthcare Staffing, has served our clients and communities by connecting people to the work that matters since 1988.
