Job Title: Registered Nurse Department: Women's Services Reports to: Director of Women's Services Revision Date: 9/19/2023 Grade Level: 29 Status: Non Exempt Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Clinical Nurse Director, in accordance with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department and established professional standards, provides total nursing care to patients of all ages appropriate to unit. Effectively interacts with patients, healthcare members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Demonstrates capability to organize and prioritize care in order to allow room for emergencies.
Duties/Responsibilities: - Perform annual review of discharge instructions for Nursery and Post Partum
- patients in reference to referral agencies and code-specific requirements (IE: NYS DOH).
- Meet annually with child protective agencies, public health, WIC, and other
- organizations that deal with child/family concerns.
- Assist Director of OGN with annual NURSERY staff evaluations; assign, supervise,
- and evaluate nursing staff performance on day to day basis. Identify staff education needs and assist in plan to meet needs.
- Coordinate the organization, development, and implementation and evaluation of the unit-specific orientation program in accordance with methods and procedures, standard of performance, operation of equipment, and rules and regulations as required BY JCAHO, DOH, and other regulatory agencies.
- Assist with review, revision, and development of policies and procedures for Nursery, ensure policies are updated annually according to NRP,AWOHN and ACOG standards. Assign key staff members to assist with the review.
- Assist in problem solving, including delivery of patient care, and using the proper chain of command.
- Assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of department QAPI plans and attend meetings regularly to provide departmental input.
- Serve on committees as assigned, attend meetings in Director's absence, and communicate information as appropriate.
- Assist Director through input for departmental goal setting, long range planning, and early budgeting process.
- Assist with staffing schedule to ensure staff is scheduled accurately and fairly, assuring proper coverage and in a cost-effective manner as assigned.
- Perform random chart audits (at least 3 per month) to ensure documentation meets compliance requirements and patient charges are accurately being captured and consistently charged.
- Set an example for staff by remaining current in PP/NU/LR care and trends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific): - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as active listening skills.

- Ability to work effectively and communicate effectively in a team environment; continuously looking for solutions to improve patient care.
- Proficiency in medication administration and practiced phlebotomy skills.
- Professionalism and business acumen appropriate for working with guests, physicians, employees and volunteers.
- Ability to cost-effectively awareness in use of resources/supplies.
Education and Experience: Diploma from an accredited school of nursing. Current licensure in NYS. Current certification in CPR, Completion of IV Therapy, Pharmacology, Neonatal Resuscitation, CARE/EFM and CBE Courses within first year of employment. One year Medical/Surgical experience preferred. Unit specific orientation to all areas of Women's Services including Labor Room, Nursery, and Post-Partum.
Working Conditions: Ability to stand for extended periods of time, ability to life twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds, fine motor skills, visual acuity.
Pay Range: $34.00-$43.45/hour
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
