Job Description

Our client, a leading leading Canadian construction and infrastructure company, is seeking a seasoned Director of Construction to oversee a major infrastructure project valued at over $1 billion. This role offers the opportunity to manage a multidisciplinary team and a deliver complex, large-scale project from conception to completion.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead the construction team, including managing and mentoring eight Project Managers, ensuring project objectives for scope, schedule, and budget are met.
  • Oversee all aspects of construction on a large infrastructure project, including design-build and joint venture partnerships.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for procurement, subcontractor management, and project delivery.
  • Manage the unionized workforce landscape, ensuring compliance with agreements and fostering positive relationships.
  • Collaborate with design teams, consultants, and sub-trades to coordinate project execution and resolve challenges proactively.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, quality controls, and regulatory requirements across all project phases.
  • Provide strategic oversight on project risks, identifying and implementing mitigation measures to ensure successful delivery.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, fostering trust and ensuring alignment on project goals and milestones.
  • Drive a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the construction team.



Ideal Candidate Requirements:



  • Minimum 20 years of experience in construction management, with a proven track record in large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., transit, healthcare facilities, or similarly complex builds).
  • Extensive experience with multidisciplinary projects, including design-build and joint venture structures.
  • Strong understanding of unionized environments and experience managing subcontractors and trades.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to manage large teams and influence stakeholders effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes and strategies for large construction projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and solve complex construction challenges while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
