Overview:

A family owned, SF-based grocer seeks a Deli/Bakery Director to oversee the Deli and Bakery service departments' daily operations and procurement across multiple stores (almost 10 stores). Candidates must have at least 7 years of experience working in a deli and/or bakery. Must have grocery, food retail, experience and at least 3 years in a leadership role. Should have a strong background in procurement, merchandising, and vendor management. 

The Deli/Bakery Director  ensures qualityefficiencyand profitability for these departments across the company. This role involves managing procurement, merchandising, and the overall presentation of deli and bakery products while supervising and supporting store directors to meet departmental goals. The Deli/Bakery Director plays a key role in developing strategies that align with company standards and customer expectations, driving sales and enhancing the customer experience. 

Key Responsibilities 

1. **Procurement and Vendor Relations** 

- Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, timely delivery, and cost-effective procurement of deli and bakery products. 

- Negotiate contracts and pricing with vendors to optimize margins and secure the best deals  for  the company. 

- Monitor inventory levels across stores, adjusting procurement strategies to prevent shortages or overstocking. 

- Ensure product compliance with health and safety regulations. 

2. **Merchandising and Product Management** 

- Develop and implement merchandising strategies that increase sales, align with customer preferences, and differentiate our deli/bakery offerings in the market. 

- Ensure consistent product presentation, pricing accuracy, and alignment with 

promotional campaigns. 

- Analyze sales data and market trends to introduce new products, refine existing offerings, and retire underperforming items. 

- Collaborate with marketing teams to create appealing displayspackaging, and advertising. 

3.  ** Supervision and Store Support** 

Leadmentor, and develop store directorsensuring they have the resources, training, and support needed to achieve deli and bakery objectives. 

- Conduct regular store visits to review operations, provide feedback, and ensure compliance with company standards. 

- Establish performance goals for deli and bakery departments and monitor results to ensure they are met consistently. 

- Provide problem-solving support and guidance to store directors, assisting them in managing any operational challenges that arise. 

4.  ** Budget and Financial Management** 

- Develop annual budgets for deli and bakery departments, closely monitoring expenses and implementing cost control measures. 

- Evaluate and analyze departmental financial performanceidentifying opportunities to increase profitability and  reduce  waste. 

- Review and approve expenditures related to the deli and bakery departments, ensuring they align with the budget and company goals. 

5. **Customer Satisfaction and Quality Assurance** 

- Maintain a strong focus on customer service, ensuring  that  all deli and bakery products meet high standards of quality and freshness. 

- Address customer feedback and resolve any issues related to deli and bakery products in a timely manner. 

- Implement quality control programs to maintain the freshness and presentation of products, promoting high customer satisfaction. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to regularly lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Standing: Up to 8 hours per day.
  • Walking: Up to 6 hours per day.
  • Reaching: Up to 4 hours per day.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Food Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in deli and/or bakery operations, with at least  years in a leadership role. 
  • Strong background in procurement, merchandising, and vendor management. 
  • Excellent leadershipcommunication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency in data analysis, budgeting, and financial management. 
  • Ability to travel to multiple store locations. 
  • Prefer candidates based in the SF/Bay Area OR has experience in the SF market

Key Competencies 

  • Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of the food supply chain. 
  • Deep understanding of customer trends in deli and bakery products. 
  • Proven experience in managing and developing teams. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
