Reports to the Supervisor, Standards & Studies and will play a key role in the day-to-day operations, projects and initiatives that will support Elexicon’s vision of empowering the communities we serve and help customers seize opportunities to ignite a better future.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Introduce, review, and approve new major and non-major equipment and drawings to be used in Elexicon Energy’s distribution system for construction purposes based on type test reports and technical standards.
- Introduce, review, and approve standards and specifications, perform engineering analyses, and determine solutions affecting the electric distribution system to properly serve new loads.
- Introduce, review, and approve technical processes, policies, and procedures for engineering, planning, and construction.
- Review customer equipment connected to the Elexicon distribution system to ensure it meets Elexicon’s requirements.
- Participate in Elexicon’s standards committee discussions to develop and approve new and innovative standards and/ or products.
- Ensure compliance with CSA, ESA, and Ontario electrical distribution safety regulation 22/04.
- Track and report Elexicon reliability and service quality metrics such as SAIDI/ SAIFI/ CAIDI FESI/ Worst Performing Feeders, Major Event Days, and Loss of Supply.
- Perform root cause analysis, recommend corrective actions on failure/incident, and prepare equipment failure analysis and investigation reports.
- Maintain accurate records of historic outage data and information and prepare reliability reports by analyzing the data to improve distribution system reliability.
- Responsible for diagnosing and assessing information from automation devices in order to determine the root cause of distribution system faults and abnormalities.
- Responsible for maintaining accurate distribution system model data records and creating an equipment database to perform various engineering calculations using engineering analysis software.
- Participate in a continuous learning manner with respect to new and emerging electric distribution system grid technologies with positive operation impacts, including all technologies associated with the smart grid.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced knowledge of power system concepts along with practical experience in distribution and station-related assets
- Experience with distribution network reliability and power quality standards and reporting requirements
- Experience with root cause analysis, failure reporting, analysis, and developing corrective action.
- Experience with technical interconnection requirements for distributed energy resources (DERs), and/ or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Experience with power system tools such as CYME, EMTP, etc.
- Experience in preparing technical reports, regulatory evidence, and presentations as required by the Manager.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, etc.) and Computer Assisted Design (CAD) systems.
- Ability to read technical drawings.
- Knowledge of GIS systems.
- Knowledge of utility-related construction practices.
- Knowledge of Ontario Regulation 22/04.

- Strong stakeholder and change management skills.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of a post-secondary university degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in Electrical Power Systems.
- Must be licensed with PEO as a P.Eng in Ontario or working towards getting a P.Eng. in Ontario
- 3 to 7 years of relevant experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a good driving record.
