Our client is one of the leading insurance defense law firms in New York and New Jersey. The firm predominantly represents national and multi-national insurance companies as well as self-insured corporations that are domiciled throughout the United States and London. The firm’s main practice areas are general insurance defense, including New York Labor Law and premises liability, and insurance coverage.
The firm is seeking an associate who will be responsible for handling all aspects of pre-trial litigation in the defense of complex construction accident cases, premises liability cases, and other general liability cases in New York state and federal courts. They will be generally responsible for developing the cases, analyzing risk, and working toward resolution. They will be expected to be able to handle, among other tasks: pleadings and discovery; taking and defending depositions; drafting and arguing motions and appeals; communicating with clients; communicating with opposing counsel; and communicating with experts.
Qualifications:
• JD from an accredited law school
• Must be admitted to practice in New York (New Jersey admission a plus)
• 4-10 years of experience
• Prior substantive experience handling matters involving New York Labor Law
Skills and Responsibilities:
• Proficient and efficient research, including Westlaw
• Professional written work product, with ability to concisely explain what matters most and why -- for audiences that will include clients, courts, and litigant counsel
• Understanding and applying discovery rules, to oversee, evaluate and enforce external and internal party compliance
• Claim investigation: client and non-party interaction with paralegal support to smartly and efficiently address what matters most
• Conducting and defending depositions
• Court Conferences
• Procedural and substantive motion practice
• Settlement negotiations and ADR Forums
• Spearhead claim resolution goals and execute resolution strategies
