PRIMARY PURPOSE Dentists provide optimal dental care that both addresses and reduces the oral health disparities among the population served by LCH&D. They diagnose and treat issues related to the teeth, gums, and oral health in general. Dentists also educate and instruct patients and their caregivers on proper oral health practices and techniques. All care and services are provided in accordance with LCH&D's philosophy of "partnership" with patients while integrating its values of Respect, Quality, Compassion and Hope.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS - Must have Dental degree and must be licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.
- Must maintain the appropriate continuing education requirements as established by the State Board of Dental Examiners.
- Must have BLS certification.
SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - A minimum of one year of dental experience or dental residency in a non-profit community healthcare environment is preferred.
- Must have proficient computer skills and the ability to become proficient in software programs specific to LCH&D i.e. NextGen, EPM, EHR, etc.
- Must have the skill and credibility to serve as a patient advocate and be a role model for change.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor and communicate enthusiastically with patients.
- Ability to be responsive in working with a culturally-diverse patient population.
- Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to master a therapeutic communication approach.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Fine and gross motor skills will be frequently employed.
- Some lifting of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- 75% walking or standing, 25% sitting at a desk.
- Category I re: exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Review patient's oral history.
- Elicit relevant information from patient regarding current and prior conditions or ailments.
- Elicit relevant information from patients/ patient's caregiver regarding their lifestyle and behavior.
- Examine oral cavity for signs of disease, neglect, or trauma.
- Perform routine checkups and screenings.
- Take, develop, and review x-ray images of teeth and mouth as needed.
- Review and analyze all results, reports, and findings regarding the condition of patients.
- Diagnose and define a treatment plan for all issues or potential issues as it relates to the teeth, gums, and oral health in general or refer to the appropriate specialist as needed.
- Refer patient to the proper medical specialty as needed.
- Perform necessary procedures including but not limited to: bridges, implants, sealants, endodontics, whitening, restorations, crowns, extractions as defined and permitted in scope of practice.
- Educate patients on recommended techniques to improve and maintain good oral health.
- Develop positive, professional, long term relationships with patients and their caregivers.
- Mentor other dental team members to promote patient care improvement.
- Promote good health throughout the facility in conversation and behavior.
- Must maintain accurate records.
- Comply with HIPAA guidelines as all times.
- Must maintain infection control standards at all times per organization policy.
- Must demonstrate clinical competence in all areas of assigned job functions.
- Participate in Peer Review.
