Location: USD 251 - Northern Heights High School (9-12) Base hourly rate $18.67. Additional compensation for experience and level of education is also available.
Purpose: The LPN Attendant assists the Instructor in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. To accomplish these tasks, the LPN Attendant works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.
Responsible to: Principal
Payment rate: As established by the Emporia Board of Education
Qualifications: - Bachelors degree in nursing or a diploma from an accredited school of nursing
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Kansas, either as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions: - Practice under the supervision of the certified registered school nurse.
- Help students attain optimum level of physical, social and emotional health through development of Health Care Plans and intervention strategies.
- Assist in facilitating the personal social, and intellectual development of students by performing the tasks assigned by the supervising teacher or certified registered school nurse.
- Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual need of students.
- Appropriately operate all classroom equipment.
- Maintain and follow written individual health care plans for students with any special care need.
- Document nursing tasks and procedures in a timely and accurate manner of record-keeping.
- Assist in the instruction and supervision of students assuring that health care needs are stable and are being met.
- Monitor student progress.
- Maintain and inventory materials/supplies; communicate to supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: - Requires direct physical contact with students including first aid care and direct nursing procedures.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Occasionally requires climbing and balancing
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
General Responsibilities: - Support and facilitate the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.
- Maintain documentation relative to program requirements.
- Prepare and file required reports.
- Ensure that all programs and activities conform to district guidelines.
- Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support data management and communication.
- Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan; actively participate in response drills.
- Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
- Acceptable use of technology
- Sexual and racial harassment
- Child abuse reporting
- Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
- Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating tolerance of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity.
- Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance; accurate recordkeeping and timely submission of required reports.
- Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
- Assist in ensuring high standards of health and safety and maintain safe and well-organized a work space.
- Respond to change in a productive manner.
- Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
