About the Facility - Houston VAMC The Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC) is a hospital affiliated with and operated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. It is one of the department's largest hospitals, serving Harris County, Texas and 27 surrounding counties. It is named for Michael E. DeBakey, a renowned surgeon and president of Baylor College of Medicine. The hospital in on a 118-acre campus on Old Spanish Trail and Almeda, just on the edge of the Texas Medical Center. It is accredited by JCAHO, and has 343 hospital beds, a 40-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, and a 120-bed transitional care unit for long-term care.
Facility Address: 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030 CRNA - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to) - The CRNA attends outpatient clinic sessions, evaluate patient complaints, make diagnoses, design treatment plans, educate the patient and family about their condition, and initiate care.
- Perform general anesthesia for elective, urgent and emergent cases.
- Anesthetist services include patients undergoing general surgery, ortho including joint replacement, ENT, urologic, podiatric, minor vascular, gynecology, endoscopy, dental/oral and ophthalmologic operations.
- The CRNA will ensure that drug therapy is safe, efficacious, and cost-effective. Standards of care developed and adopted by the professional staff of the facility shall be the criteria for appropriateness of drug therapy.
- Administer sedation, covering minimal, moderate, and deep levels.
- Offer anesthesia services for all age groups and varying degrees of disability, encompassing trauma.
- Administer anesthesia, including neuraxial (epidural and spinal) and extremity blocks.
- Prepares prescriptions accurately following federal and UP Public Health Service Laws and Policies.
- The CRNA screens the patient's health record to avoid inappropriate drug interactions and monitor patients for the appropriateness of therapy.
CRNA - REQUIREMENTS - Must have twelve months of anesthesia experience with twelve months in the specialty required.
- Shall be licensed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and possess a current, valid, unrestricted license in a state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
- The following certifications must be maintained during employment: BLS, PALS, ACLS.
