This employee administers respiratory therapy care to long term care residents with abnormalities and deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system according to physician prescription.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review prescription and patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment
- Determine suitable treatment administration and modifications that may be needed, compatible with physician orders
- Set up and operate devices including mechanical ventilators, nebulizers, and/or compressors
- Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, oxygen concentration, and/or temperature
- Monitor patient response to therapy via vital sign and blood chemistry changes
- Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimal results
- Consult with physician in event of adverse reaction
- Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently
- Order repairs when needed
- Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees
- Perform staff education at customer facilities
- Perform tracheostomy tube changes
Licenses: - Active State Respiratory Care Practitioner license
Education and Experience: - Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
- Previous related work experience
