The specific locations include:nnCVC's (Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens/Long Island City)nNYC Mobile Veterinary Clinics (All 5 boroughs, this role may be assigned to commute to available NY locations based on interest, availability, and business needs)nnClinic s operate Monday-Friday, closed on major holidays. Schedules are subject to change at the sole discretion of the ASPCA.nAvailable schedules vary by location. Candidates will be able to share preferences for the locations and the full-time and part-time schedule options that interest them during the application process.nnResponsibilities:nnJob Responsibilities include but are not limited to:nnMedicalnnProvide compassionate, quality preventive and basic care to patients, overseeing all aspects of veterinary care during a clinic day including physical examination, diagnostics, treatment recommendations and delivery, prescribing of medications and discharge information in line with typical clinic schedulingnFor Veterinarians Participating in HQHVSN Clinics:nnPerform pre-surgery physical examinations on all surgical candidatesnPerform 30-40 high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgical procedures per spay/neuter clinic day (individualized training provided by the ASPCA)nDiagnose and treat post-surgical medical complicationsnPerform and oversee all aspects of minor outpatient surgical proceduresnnProvide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using low-stress handling techniquesnTriage and refer cases that do not fall within CM's parameters of care as appropriatenPerform humane euthanasia in accordance with ASPCA policy and CM protocolsnProvide support and medical services in special cases as needed, including evaluation and treatment of animals living in hoarding situationsnnClient ServicennCommunicate with all clients in a non-judgement, effective and professional manner; discuss physical examination and test results to allow pet owners to make informed decisions about their pet's carenCounsel owners about end of life and other sensitive medical concernsnProvide discharge instructions for patients and oversee the dispensing of medicationsnnAdministrative/TeamworknnDocument exam findings, test results and treatment recommendations according to ASPCA guidelinesnCollaborate and foster good communication with ASPCA colleaguesnParticipate in veterinary/medical training of CM staff, ASPCA staff and veterinary and technical students by coaching, discussion, and demonstrationnAssist in determining the needed scope of services provided by Community Medicine based on experience with patients and clients and provide input into medical protocolsnSupport the ASPCA's commitment to research and development to benefit animals across the country by participating in studies designed to improve access to carenParticipate in CM's monthly virtual medical rounds, attend workshops or staff meetings as requestednFor those willing/interested in travel, occasional opportunities to deploy with the ASPCA's National Field Response team to assist with large-scale disaster or cruelty casesnnExemplifies the ASPCA's Core Values:nnHas Commitment and dedication to improving the lives of animalsnDemonstrates Ownership and feels responsible for outcomesnBelieves in Team - that we are stronger togethernSeeks to Elevate others and reimagine what is possiblenFocuses on Impact, specifically making change for animalsnnQualifications:nnDoctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent)nCurrent veterinary licensure in state(s) of selected location(s), or ability to obtain within 60 days of employmentnNew graduate's welcome!nWe welcome final year veterinary students graduating from an AVMA accredited veterinary college, passing the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE), and becoming a licensed veterinarian in the State of employmentnProvide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using low-stress handling techniquesnFear Free certification is required within 60 days of hirenFor Veterinarians Participating in HQHVSN Clinics, proficiency in general surgery skills and spay/neuter surgery. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience.
