Job Description
  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Responsible for providing care to patients acting as an assistant to the Radiation Oncologist in the clinic or hospital setting Monday through Friday and on-call as requested by the Radiation Oncologist and/or Blount Memorial Hospital following established standards and practices.
  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS
    • Education and/or experience: Current Tennessee Nurse Practitioner License. Previous Radiation Oncology and hospital experience preferred. Current certification by a national certification organization required. Current malpractice insurance policy required. CPR certification, ACLS required.
      Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable regarding patient care plans.
      Skills: Excellent communication skills. Must be organized, responsible, motivated and self-directed.
      Abilities: Must be able to multitask and deal with difficult situations. Must be able to handle stressful situations.
      • Ability to communicate clearly and apply policies, principles and standard medical practices to solve everyday problems and deal with a variety of situations related to oncology patient care.
      • Ability to plan, exercise initiative, problem-solving, decision making
      • Ability to follow guidelines specific to NP duties in Blount Memorial Hospital and Radiation Oncology. When no guidelines exist, to review each case with the physician.
      • Ability to read, interpret and apply clinic policies and procedures
      • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
      • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities
      • Ability to communicate effectively and engender a team atmosphere with all members of the health care team across disciplines
      • Contribute to the welfare of the Cancer Center and Radiation Oncology departments by active participation in Blount Memorial Hospital based activities including, but not limited to community outreach and educational activities within the community during and after regular business hours
      • Provides a level of service that strives to exceed patient's expectations
      • Able to teach patients and families at their level and affirm level of understanding by asking them to repeat important information
      • Continues professional development at a minimum of 20 CME hours/year
      • Have familiarity with radiation therapy and side effects OSHA standards and JACO guidelines for administering and following radiation therapy or is willing to learn.
      • Attends staff meetings
      • Ability to substitute for RNS or other clinical employees as priorities dictate.
      • Obey all regulations of the employee handbook
      • Maintain Blount Memorial Hospital staff privileges
      • Weekend and after hours patient care as determined by the radiation oncologist and/or Blount Memorial Hospital
      • On-call as determined by the radiation oncologist and/or Blount Memorial Hospital
