Position Requirements:
- Active and Unrestricted Medical License in ANY State
- Must be Board eligible or Board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited graduate school of Medicine. Licensure: Must have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license specific to the position (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in the U.S. jurisdiction within which the HC W is performing at the place of performance.
- Active DEA Registration OR CDS
- Possess a minimum of one year of experience actively practicing as a full-time Board Eligible or Board- Certified Physician certified by the American board of Anesthesiology during the last year which enables him/her to perform the specific tasks listed for their specialty.
Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide routine and emergent anesthesia care for neonatal through geriatric patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classifications I-VI.
- Perform routine preoperative evaluations on patients and provide contemporary regional and general anesthesia care for the following subspecialties: general surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, cardiothoracic, vascular, adult dentistry, pediatric dentistry, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, urology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, podiatry, and dermatology.
- Oversee the administration of anesthesia by nurse anesthetists; administer anesthesia to patients whose condition poses a particular anesthetic difficulty. Administer appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic nerve blocks in the treatment of acute and chronic pain.
- Oversee the activities of the recovery room and administer appropriate drug and respiratory therapy in the recovery room setting. Implement the proper use of mechanical ventilators in the recovery room, and as necessary, in the intensive care units.
- Provide consultation regarding preoperative preparation, intra and postoperative anesthetic management, and treatment of chronic pain patients. Perform administrative duties as required to include completion of all required reports, records, and quality assurance reviews.
- Participate in designated Anesthesia Service training activities to include in -services. Participate in other catastrophic problems where the skill of an anesthesiologist is applicable, e.g., drug overdoses, cardiac arrests, respiratory problems, or trauma admissions.
- Participate in Continuing Medical Education and provide a high level of quality assurance. May be required to participate in teaching and counseling nurse anesthesia staff, nurse anesthesia students, rotating residents, medical students, or other perioperative personnel.
- Maintain all command-directed and/or TJC mandated training requirements. Document medical care in accordance with local MTF policy, AR 40 -66 and the standards established by the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
