Bus Driver Job Description Position Title: Bus Driver Department: Transportation Reports to: Operations Manager Regular hours: Part Time and Full Time Positions available Pay Range: $26.49 to $32.81 per hour (DOE) Benefits: partial benefits available for most drivers, full benefits available for 30+ hrs/wk Position details: Route driver positions available driving a minibus (non-CDL) and large bus (CDL required), positions are also available transporting students with special needs. Bus route drivers for the Roaring Fork School District are a vital part of the students day and education. Drivers have the opportunity to set the tone for the students' day and educational experience. Students rely on their driver to get them to school and back home everyday and they often know each other by name, develop strong relationships, and stay in touch well beyond the bus route.
Bus drivers have flexible schedules, with the opportunity for driving time for activity trips throughout the year in addition to their regular routes. Bus drivers are a part of a unique, active and close team; both with the other drivers and with the transportation community throughout the state. Drivers constantly look out for each other regarding road conditions, traffic accidents and student issues to make everyone's day safer.
Job Description SUMMARY: This position is a limited duration training position in which the applicant is taught the knowledge and skills necessary to become a district Bus Driver. Upon successful completion of training the applicant has the opportunity to become qualified for and be promoted to a Bus Driver position. After successful completion of the training, applicants will know how to transport, safely and expediently, students to and from home and between schools. Training schedule is dependent upon the applicant's skills, knowledge and application of learned materials and usually requires 40 to 60 hours to complete. If an applicant already possesses a commercial driver's license the training time will be significantly reduced.
Essential Job Functions - Safely and Efficiently transport students in support of their education
- Monitor and Manage Student behavior
- Perform basic operator level vehicle inspections and maintenance- including pre and post trip inspections per Colorado Code of Regulations
Other Job Functions - Communicate regularly with Transportation and school staff regarding student, route and vehicle issues via two-way radio, verbal and written communication
- May be required to transport students with special needs and will be trained to do so per Colorado Department of Education guidelines
- Attends all meetings and training sessions including all training and driver meetings.
- Seek ways to improve the assigned bus route and student transportation experience
- Learns how to and performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE - High school diploma or equivalent.
- No experience required.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS - Criminal background check required for hire.
- Must be at least 21 years of age with 5 years suitable Motor Vehicle Records
- Valid Colorado driver's license.
- Commercial driver's license (CDL) with Class B P2S CDL endorsement required before assignment to most routes
- Ability to pass the Colorado Department of Transportation physical examination
- Participation in the Colorado Department of Education Random Drug and Alcohol testing program

BENEFITS INFORMATION Employees regularly scheduled to work thirty (30) hours per week or more are eligible to receive full payment of health insurance benefits. Employees regularly scheduled to work twenty (20) hours per week or more are eligible to receive the district contribution towards insurance benefits. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than twenty (20) hours per week, or employees whose employment is temporary, are not eligible for benefits.
