The Flatbush YMCA is seeking a Gym Monitor who will oversee the successful operation of sports, games, and other activities in the gymnasium. The Gym Monitor will provide a high degree of member service through a professional relationship with participating members and ensure a positive and safe user experience. Key Responsibilities: Provide orientation and instruction on proper usage of sports equipment to members and guests. Provide a positive experience to all members and guests by initiating a professional relationship regarding their needs, concerns, and questions. Assist members in sports programming and open play; monitor games and free play. Understand the basic sports principles and be aware of current sports programs and trends. Monitor the gymnasium to ensure compliance with YMCA policies and procedures. Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA. Perform equipment inspections and report results to the supervisor. Maintain cleanliness and order in the gymnasium. Obtain shift coverage when unable to report to work. Make phone calls to members as requested by the supervisor. Maintain and monitor teen hours. Operate a scoreboard and keep track of the scores of the games that are taking place. Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings. Have a thorough knowledge of the branch's emergency procedures and take appropriate action in emergency situations. Screen the gymnasium entrance to ensure that access is granted to the correct individuals when appropriate. Complete incident reports within 24 hours. Support the community and promote special events as needed. Desired Skills & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent required. Experience working in a sports environment. Current adult CPR/First Aid certifications. Knowledge of Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y and Foundations of Listen First.
