Job Description
Title: Associate, Geology - Global Investment Banking / Energy (Houston) Overview: Contributes to the overall success of the Domestic and International A&D team within the Global Investment Banking – Energy Division located in Houston, TX USA. Ensures specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. What You’ll Do Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. Responsible for the technical and financial evaluation of oil and gas assets (including but not limited to depositional environments, reservoir characteristics, base and upside evaluation, risk assessment, facility constraints and requirements, creating plan of development, developing economic assumptions) – with senior oversight Perform detailed review of evaluation inputs, ensure accuracy and reasonableness of any outputs and sensitivities Preparation and review of technical data room materials related to sell side and buy side mandates Contribute to portions of management presentations, including detailed slides with specific focus on geoscience aspects to both the base and upside cases in addition to overviews describing land and contracts, production, reserves, joint ventures, facilities, marketing, accounting, etc., and oversight of any related graphical drafting materials For business origination activities, help generate the technical geoscience portions of pitch books, and when required, attend client meetings Provide sound ad-hoc geological and geophysical analysis as required by senior bankers and clients Maintain working knowledge of industry activity and trends, commodity prices, and latest developments in technology Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment What You’ll Bring Masters degree in Geosciences, preferably with a petroleum specialty, or equivalent combination with work experience Highly motivated individual with 5 to 10 years of oil and gas industry experience at an upstream operator Exposure to a combination of both conventional and unconventional (U.S. and international) projects preferred Broad technical oil and gas geoscience experience (geology, geophysics, petrophysics, development / operations, reservoir, characterization, drilling inventory, recovery techniques, technological advances, risking etc.) Beneficial to have exposure to oil and gas acquisitions and divestiture activity in a prior role Proven ability to work concurrently across multiple tasks / activities primarily related to oil and gas asset / corporate evaluations Clear demonstration of concise written and verbal communication skills Strong knowledge of third-party support products (e.g. Enverus Prism, Wood Mackenzie Welligence), as well as to technical analysis and interpretation platforms (e.g. Petrel, ArcGIS etc.); some knowledge of ARIES, PHDwin beneficial Strong computer skills including analytical tools offered in MS Excel, Spotfire and/or other data analytics programs Interest in learning about Corporate Finance and Corporate Banking functions within the energy space FINRA licensed (or will be expected to obtain SIE, Series 79 and 63 licensing shortly upon hire) J-18808-Ljbffr
