Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
Serves as a Practical Nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines - Monitors and records age appropriate physiological measurements
- Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed
- Provides individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative
healthcare and health maintenance - Performs appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and
clinical procedures - Records treatment, procedure rendered, and observed effects
- Identifies and records patient problems and appropriately notifies provider/nursing
team of observations - Recognizes and responds to emergencies and performs basic life support measures
- Performs appropriate portions of physical examinations including age appropriate
physical measurements - Adheres to infection control procedures including use of personal protective
equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic technique - Performs central sterile supply duties
- Ensures all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end
of each work shift. Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as
directed. - Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines
to determine medical needs - Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as
required - Participates in training and continuing education programs for new procedures,
techniques, and equipment - Establishes and maintains appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with
coworkers, families, peers, and other team members - Perform other task and administrative work (peer review,) within nursing scope of
practice in the clinic. Serves and participates in committees, functions, and other meetings as
directed by clinic leadership. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups, and
assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service
initiatives and medical readiness activities designed to enhance health services - Proficiency in Comprehensive Health Care System (CHCS), Armed Forces Health
Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), and Automated Data System (ADS) is
desirable. - Applies the nursing process in care of patients. Demonstrates sound assessment and
clinical decision-making skills. Maintains currency of skills through ongoing in-service
training and continuing education
Minimum Requirements
Degree: Certificate.
Education: Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college,
university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and
accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was
completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
(NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Certifications in addition to BLS: PALS, ACLS
Experience: One year of practical or vocational nurse experience after graduation.
Licensure: Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse
