Job Description
The Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Department at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) is hiring a Senior Veterinarian for our ER. The AMC is one of the nation’s largest facilities for animal care, research, and education. The state-of-the-art hospital operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with 55,000 patient visits annually. Over 130 veterinarians comprise the professional staff, representing all specialties, and providing a progressive, stimulating, and rewarding working environment. About Emergency & Critical Care at AMC The ECC Department is currently comprised of seven board-certified specialists in ECC, seven internship-trained emergency doctors, seven residents, 23 licensed technicians (several with their VTS in ECC), and 25 assistants. In our open ICU, patients are co-managed by ECC and allied services or managed primarily by the ECC team. Our ER is at the hospital’s center, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has an active caseload of nearly 20,000 visits per year. AMC is the only VETCOT certified, level one trauma center in the region and is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation updating all clinical aspects of the hospital with an expected completion in 2025. The Senior Veterinarian in ER will play a paramount and integral role in the Emergency and Critical Care department. The clinical responsibilities of our ER doctors include primary case receiving as well as oversight of the interns and ECC residents seeing emergency cases. The overnight rotation for ER doctors includes oversight and monitoring of all pets hospitalized in the ICU and oversight of the interns in the ER. The senior ER doctor schedule varies between daytime, swing, and overnight shifts, and generally will be working alongside 2-3 senior ER doctors and/or criticalists and 4-6 rotating interns when on daytime or swing. Senior ER doctors share responsibilities in the ER with the boarded criticalists and senior ECC residents. The Senior Veterinarian in ER role is demanding but extremely gratifying and promotes infinite growth. Efficiency, diplomacy, patience, and confidence are essential character traits for our doctors, as are both a desire to teach and to continue to learn. We encourage our senior ER doctors to participate in both internal and external continuing education opportunities and to stay apprised of current literature as it applies to ECC. Benefits: Competitive salary Generous sign-on bonus Four-day work week Comprehensive benefits including health insurance with medical, dental, and vision benefits, very generous paid time off, paid continuing education time-off stipend, and 403-b retirement plan with employer contribution Possibility of housing in an AMC apartment building or assistance to find housing School loan debt forgiveness opportunity as a non-profit hospital Non-corporate practice with no percentage pay Collegial work with colleagues in a non-competitive structure with strong teaching and mentoring opportunities as well as opportunities for research J-18808-Ljbffr
