We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer (EE) to join our Electrical Technologies team located in Rancho Bernardo. We are looking for someone with drive, talent, and experience in Embedded Systems and Controls who also thrives in a fast-paced, Research and Development (R&D) environment. The successful candidate will report to the Sr. Manager of High-Speed Digital and, alongside high-caliber staff, will be engaged in the engineering support and new development of high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, high-energy laser systems, advanced aerospace and electro-optic sensors, space-based optical communications, nuclear thermal propulsion, cutting-edge technology ventures into Defense and “NewSpace,” and a variety of disruptive technologies in the expanding product portfolio of GA-EMS. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with GA-EMS Engineering staff and chief engineers in the concept development, architecture, and prototype design, integration, and test of high-power processing solutions for all product lines and technology areas. Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solutions for designated engineering systems, projects, and programs. Demonstrate prior experience in the improvement of legacy systems and development of new systems. Generate electrical controls and embedded systems architecture solutions for new project needs, perform engineering analyses for systems and circuits, document findings, communicate results to engineering and program management staff, give technical presentations, and manage technical effort schedules. Function in an advisory or leadership role for a project/program and provide planning, direction and oversight to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff in technical efforts. Formulate plans, typically multi-year, and coordinate solutions development and deployment including documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical presentations. Evaluate the integration of the engineering solutions within the overall engineering environment and ensure that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed. Plan for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology. Develops new and expands existing business opportunities. Communicate with colleagues and management throughout solution development and deployment cycles. Represent the company as a prime technical contact on contracts and/or projects and interact with senior external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between the organizations. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Job Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or ten or more years with a PhD. Active DoD Security Clearance is required. Required Experience: Embedded systems development (processor, microcontroller, FPGA, and MPSoC); mixed-signal circuit design (analog/digital); analysis, design, and implementation of hardware systems to include digital, analog, RF, and optical is required. Desirable Experience: Embedded Systems development for complex, high-performance system-of-systems; embedded systems architecture and project development for Xilinx and/or Microsemi devices including Zynq Ultrascale MPSoCs and/or SmartFusion2 SoCs; VxWorks implemented on custom, high-requirement hardware; distributed, embedded Linux environments; National Instruments Labview instrumentation and controls development on cRIO devices, including FPGA-level, CPU/RTOS-level, and client-side GUI; familiarity with DoD technical review process. Desired Skills: Experience with Xilinx Vivado Design Suite, Xilinx Vitis Unified Software Platform, Microsemi Libero SoC Design Suite, bare-metal C-code programming, VxWorks, Linux, Buildroot, National Instruments LabVIEW, VHDL, C/C++, PADS or Altium PCB Design Software, Atlassian Tool Suite, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, and Powerpoint. Demonstrate technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
