SUMMARY: Production Operator controls equipment and systems that process chemical substances and materials into tanks to make fertilizer products. Operates equipment and monitors the production process to ensure efficient and safe output. Being a Production Operator 2 follows standard operating procedure and performs process quality checks to identify and resolve issues during processing. Troubleshoots problems with equipment, responds to system notifications and makes required adjustments as needed. Additionally, Production Operator enters required production data and information into logs. Follows all procedures for safe material handling and required safety gear. Typically reports to a supervisor or team leader. Production Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or having attained full proficiency in a specific area. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operate Chemical and Organic Process Equipment and systems: Organize and facilitate loading and unloading of deliveries to the facility including equipment, ingredients, and final products. Document receipt of equipment and products. Operate blenders and equipment pertaining to the coating and granulation of fertilizers. Operate augers, belt conveyors, blenders, tumblers, fluid bed dryers and various liquid and dry loading systems. Data recording and project tracking: Cooperate with product development teams to establish target specifications. Keep detailed records of inclusions, processes, and results. Refine and improve processes to reach desired specifications. Participate in counts of materials onsite. Daily maintenance and cleaning of fertilizer facility. May unload or move materials. Make batch plant operations and blend custom fertilizers. Fill out proper documentation for blend sheets. Monitor all tanks that are being pumped into or out of for leaks, spills, or damage. Ensure all equipment is working properly. Make sure the tank is properly stickered for warnings, deposit and tank testing. Wear proper safety equipment per SDS of chemical being handled by an employee. Help with random sampling for fertilizer analysis accuracy. Work with production leads on awareness and management of any contaminated loads. Make sure all containers are properly cleaned (CPIs) and documented. Make sure all pumps and valves are labeled correctly, whether it be on or off, open or close, or the correct chemical name. Attend product training sessions and meetings when necessary. Monitoring product applications, calculating amounts, calibrating equipment, controlling applications, and operating equipment to blend fertilizers such as: pumps. Railcar cleaning. Repairing and washing totes. Screening lignite product. Toting product. Jugging and bagging product. Handling wastewater. Other work-related duties as assigned. COMPETENCY: Must have knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Must have knowledge of equipment is preferred but not required: Granulation: granulation pan, pin mixer, product feeders. Fertilizer Coating: Fluid bed dryers, Fertilizer blenders, elevators, and dust collection systems. Must understand weights and measures for dry and liquid chemicals. Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with equipment is required. Such as: Granulation: granulation pan, pin mixer, product feeders. Fertilizer Coating: Fluid bed dryers, Fertilizer blenders, elevators, and dust collection systems. Operate material handling equipment including forklift, order picker, pallet jack and other equipment as required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is mostly indoors during all weather conditions, with some outdoor work. Work is performed around moving machinery and equipment, noise levels vary depending on what equipment is being worked around such as: Gas/Air/Electric pumps, forklifts, ladders, hoses, tractors, sky trek, skyjack, catwalks, general hand tools, agitators, mixers, scales, pH meters, specific gravity cups, valves, camlock couplers, y-strainers, sweecos, and decanters. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma/GED. 3-6 years of related experience. J-18808-Ljbffr
