Job Description
As a Veterinarian I – Pork Live Production , you will take on a key role in managing health-related protocols and fostering collaboration between company producers and internal technical services. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing wean-to-market operations in the Midwest, addressing health challenges, and implementing innovative processes to improve animal welfare and biosecurity.
You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in livestock health management by providing expert guidance, conducting farm assessments, and facilitating training programs. The role combines strategic problem-solving with practical, hands-on work, ensuring sustainable health practices in pork production.
Key Responsibilities
Health Management:
- Oversee health-related protocols and address farm health issues with immediate and long-term action plans.
- Collaborate with farm personnel and the Technical Services department to develop innovative strategies for disease management and biosecurity.
Farm Assessments and Training:
- Conduct regular evaluations of farms, including health assessments and biosecurity audits.
- Assist in training farm personnel to ensure proper implementation of established health-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Strategic Planning:
- Analyze health challenges and trends, providing actionable insights to improve swine welfare and production.
- Develop long-term solutions for enhancing health management and reducing disease risks.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including farm producers and production management.
- Communicate findings and strategies effectively across internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
- Education: Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine with the ability to practice in the United States.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of related experience (time in veterinary college counts toward experience).
- Licensure: Active licensure or willingness to obtain licensure in Indiana, Illinois, and other Midwest states.
- Special Skills: Comprehensive understanding of diseases and disorders affecting swine welfare.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Advanced knowledge in swine or livestock health management.
- Familiarity with disease outbreak management and preventative veterinary strategies.
- Expertise in biosecurity practices and production management technologies.
- Experience in training teams and implementing SOPs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and Midwest livestock industry experience.
