Production Manager – 2nd Shift (2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. M-F)

Location: Crystal Lake, IL

We are seeking a hands-on Production Manager for the 2nd shift to oversee machine operators, setup technicians, and leads, with indirect responsibility for several other departments. This role involves supervising around 50 employees, including 40 direct reports. The manager will be the only person from management on-site between 5:30 – 10:00 p.m., ensuring smooth operations across departments like converting, slitting, laminating, and press operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations with a focus on converting while supporting slitting, laminating, and press departments.
  • Ensure production goals are met by working closely with operators and setup technicians.
  • Participate in equipment setups, ensuring timely quality inspections and production efficiency.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects (Kaizen, Gemba walks, etc.) to enhance productivity.
  • Implement 5S, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, and flow improvement tools.
  • Monitor machine operations and troubleshoot mechanical issues as needed.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage production processes effectively.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role within a production environment.
  • 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing, with a strong focus on production and team leadership.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with production equipment (e.g., flexographic presses, laminators, slitting equipment).
  • Strong background in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience managing machine operators and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently during off-shift hours and collaborate with other departments.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in a related field.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Radius ERP preferred).
  • Background in packaging, printing, plastics, or food production industries.

  • Friendly but firm management approach, ensuring instructions are followed while maintaining a supportive environment.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
