nanoComposix is a privately held R&D and manufacturing company that develops innovative nanomaterials for research and commercial markets. We manufacture hundreds of different variants of metal and metal-oxide core/shell nanocomposites for a wide range of applications including biosensors, medical devices, clinical diagnostics, and optical effects. Our mission is to help our clients bring nano-enabled products to market. Our R&D Team currently has an opportunity for a Research Scientist - Polymeric Nanoformulations and Characterizations in San Diego, CA.


What You Will Do:


The Research Scientist – Polymeric Nanoformulatons and Characterizations will be responsible for the development of polymeric and/or lipidic nano-formulations for biomedical applications and their characterization including, but not limited to, HPLC, BCA, ELISA, Gel electrophoresis and Western Blot. This position will also be leading research and development projects for internal and external clients.


Job Duties:

  • Leads project teams, establishing, directing, and guiding team members towards common objectives; creates high level technical plans and more detailed plans for individual team members.
  • Develops, fabricates, and characterizes polymeric and/or lipidic nano-formulations and collaborate with Process Development and Manufacturing teams to scale and manufacture materials.
  • Contributes to developing strategies for continued commercial growth of nano-formulations for biomedical applications
  • Develops analytical methods using HPLC and other characterization tools and assays.
  • Prioritizes work to achieve outcomes rapidly, effectively, and within budget.
  • Anticipates next steps, plans, and documents experiments, and communicates results to others.
  • Sets and leads project team meetings to engage team and ensure progress.
  • Manages technical information and budget for large commercial contracts.
  • Provides idea generation and support (preliminary data, figures, etc.) for external proposals and contributes to proposal writing.
  • Contribute to reporting technical results and project progress to internal and external clients.
  • Provides content for technical and marketing literature.
  • Multitasks effectively and can balance quality with throughput.


Who You Are & What You Bring


Education / Background

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Nanoengineering
  • 4+ years of experience with analytical, physical, organic and biochemistry laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment
  • Experience in leading a project team through all phases of the project lifecycle is preferred
  • Experience in polymeric and/or lipid-based particles
  • Experience with assays such as HPLC, ELISA, Gel Electrophoresis, blotting, Luminex
  • Experience with optical microscopes such as UV-Vis, DLS, Zeta-Potential, TEM, or SEM


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Able to deliver sound and repeatable results.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new techniques and approaches.
  • Ability to keep organized data and records.
  • Ability to present clearly to stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and use of Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN’s).
  • HPLC, ELISA, gel electrophoresis experience preferred.

Annual Salary Range: $83,000.00-$95,000.00
