Title: RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II
Location : Durham, NC
Shift : Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Duration/Type: 6-Month contract
POSITION OVERVIEW
- Leading institution in cutting edge vaccine research against infectious diseases that impact global health. Basic science discoveries made using a variety of human and pathogen-derived proteins, designed, produced and evaluated by a collaborative team are contributing to the identification of vaccine and therapeutic candidates in early phases of clinical trials. This technical laboratory position will focus on evaluating, through use of several laboratory binding assays, these experimental vaccine components and the immune responses they generate in animal models.
Responsibilities
- Perform vaccine research in a Laboratory of B-Cell Immunology, focusing on in-vitro antibody binding assays.
- Collaborate in characterizing antibody responses in studies of animal and human specimens and recombinant systems utilizing primarily ELISA.
- Operate semi-automated and automated laboratory instruments including electronic multichannel pipettors, liquid handling machines and plate readers.
- Perform complex experiments working with animal and human specimens in teams and individually.
- Understand and comply with all safety standards and procedures to insure a safe working environment for all laboratory staff.
- Carry out, analyze and archive experiments in a manner that is well detailed, accurate and understandable to others.
- Keep lab area, equipment, chemical reagents and supplies in excellent order. Maintain inventory systems for samples, reagents, proteins, and antibodies.
- Perform routine lab maintenance, cleaning, ordering and organizing.
- Learn new lab techniques and teach them to other lab staff.
- Collaborate with other staff, your supervisor, and primary investigator to review experimental results and develop new research plans; assist in the training of new personnel.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Principal Investigator or senior lab staff.
Education, Skills, & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field
- Basic skills in laboratory techniques
- Must be able to manage multiple and rapidly changing priorities and have ability to quickly learn new skills
- Must be detail-oriented, well organized with strong communication skills and ability to work in an interactive team environment.
